The US Women’s Water Polo Team has an unlikely mascot cheering them on during the Paris Olympics— Flavor Flav. The 65-year-old rapper has taken the players under his wing after learning about the financial woes the team faced leading up to the Olympics. Despite bringing home the gold in three consecutive Olympics, many players were forced to take two or three jobs to sustain the team. Flavor Flav signed a deal to financially support the team for the next five years and is bringing some much needed attention to the sport. He can often be found in the stands during matches donning US Water Polo merch, and even jumped in the pool to participate in a practice last month, which he claims was “the hardest seven minutes” of his life. As a father to four daughters, Flavor Flav has become a major advocate for women’s sports in recent years and hopes that his allyship will give the US women’s team the support they need to bring home a fourth-straight gold medal.
