The International Energy Agency released a comprehensive report on renewable energy that claims solar energy will be the world’s leading source of electricity by 2027. The IEA also forecasts that in the next five years, the world will increase its renewable energy usage as much as it has in the past two decades. Solar energy has grown exponentially in recent years considering that in 2013, only 1% of global electricity was from solar energy, and the world is now on track to have it be the dominant source in the next four years. The global energy crisis brings a unique set of challenges and opportunities for renewable energy, and the IEA is confident that increasing solar energy can be a turning point towards a greener future.
