Scottish Prison Program for Fathers

Scottish prisons are leading the way with a new program called Healthy Dads, Healthy Kids, designed to help incarcerated fathers strengthen their bonds with their children. Over eight weeks, 14 families with children aged five to twelve take part in weekly sessions where dads learn positive parenting skills, play active games, and share meaningful conversations before sitting down for a family meal—sometimes for the first time outside of a prison visiting room. These moments have transformed relationships, allowing fathers and children to maintain healthy connections despite living apart, while giving dads renewed motivation for the lives awaiting them after release. The program has already seen great success in two prisons, with plans to expand to four more facilities across Scotland.
