12-year-old Rosili was thrilled to see a new playground being built in her neighborhood in Clearfield City, Utah, and frequently walked by the construction site to check on the progress. As the playground came together, Rosili worried that the equipment being installed was too advanced for younger children to use. She decided to draw her own dream playground, designed with elements that would be suitable for Rosili’s younger sisters and those with disabilities to use. The tween took her drawings to City Hall, where she met with the Community Service Director to explain her concerns and ideas. City officials took Rosili’s plans seriously, and ended up incorporating many of her designs in the Thornock Park Playground. Rosili participated in meetings with city planners, selected equipment from vendors, and made her thoughts known every step of the way. Rosili’s dream recently came to fruition when she cut the ribbon at the opening celebration for the playground after months of hard work.
