Chicago Marathon Highlights

Many heartwarming and inspiring stories came from the Chicago Marathon this year, including a new world record time set by Ruth Chepngetich. The 30-year-old Kenyan athlete completed the route in 2:09:56, becoming the first woman to finish a marathon in under 2 hours and 10 minutes. While Chepngetich was running for speed, others were there to simply enjoy the experience. Friends Henry Kozlowski, Randy Burt, and George Mueller crossed the finish line for the 46th time— they’re the only three people who have run every Chicago Marathon since the first race in 1977. The running pals have modified their training over the years as they’re now in their mid-70s, but they claim the excitement has never worn off. Nearly 50,000 runners traversed the city in the iconic race, including current Miss USA Alma Cooper, who ran in support of human rights nonprofit Apna Ghar. The course saw everything from impressive wheelchair racers to runners donning silly costumes, making it a marathon to remember.
