If you’re itching to move to a new city but don’t know where to go, the newly released 2023 Happiest Cities in America report may be a good place to start. The list examined 182 of the largest cities in the country and ranked them based on 30 happiness indicators, including depression rates, average leisure time per day, average commute time, cost of living, and more. California accounts for seven out of the top 20 cities on the list, the most out of any state in the country. The top ten happiest cities in order are: Fremont, CA; San Jose, CA; Madison, WI; Overland Park, KS; San Francisco, CA; Irvine, CA; Columbia, MD; Sioux Falls, SD; South Burlington, VT; and Burlington, VT. The winner of the rankings, Fremont, CA, has the lowest depression rate in the country (11.9%) as well as the lowest separation and divorce rate (9.21%).
