Giving Shelter Dogs an NYC Adventure

An animal-loving New Yorker has found a creative way to help shelter dogs find forever homes. Bryan Reisberg is frequently seen wandering around New York City with a rescue pup in a backpack labeled “Adopt Me”. Every week, Reisberg takes shelter dogs on adventures around the city, giving them a fun day of freedom and allowing them to meet potential adopters. They travel on the subway, go to parks, pick up toys and treats from pet stores, and make lots of friends along the way. The idea came from Reisberg’s own dog, a corgi named Maxine, who became a social media sensation when Reisberg started carrying her around in a doggie backpack. He realized it could be a unique method to get rescue dogs adopted— and he was right. So far, Reisberg’s outings and corresponding social media posts have gotten 10 dogs adopted from Best Friends Animal Society. Beyond helping individual dogs, his efforts have also increased donations and volunteers at the shelter overall by showing people that rescue animals are lovable, fun, and ready for happy homes.
