Fish Robots Saving Waterways

As climate change threatens life within the world’s waterways, scientists are turning to unique measures to protect the planet. Technology company Aquaai created drones designed to resemble clownfish that measure the oxygen, salinity, and pH levels of various waterways. The data acquired from Aquaai’s four-foot long fish drones will inform strategies to keep waterways hospitable for marine life. The robots were built to integrate into underwater habitats and will swim among the fish, making it a non-invasive and cost-effective option for marine data collection. Although Aquaai is in the process of determining where their fish drones will have the largest impact, they are hoping to start in the Middle East and North Africa where fresh water resources are the most limited.
