48-Year-Old College Football Player
A 48-year-old California father of three is making his college football debut this season, proving that it’s never too late to return to a dream. Justin Buzzard is now a freshman defensive end for the San Jose City College Jaguars, where he fittingly wears No. 48 on his jersey. Buzzard originally registered to play football at Whitworth University 30 years ago, but suffered an injury before ever taking the field and was unable to play. Years later, his son encouraged him to give the sport another shot after hearing about older athletes returning to college competition. Buzzard began training, lifting weights, and focused on his health to prepare for the season. Now, he’s not only competing alongside teammates young enough to be his children, but also swapping football advice with his two sons, who play in high school. Buzzard says the experience has reminded him that goals don’t have to come with an expiration date, and he hopes to inspire his children to never give up on their dreams.
