This month, the 46th annual Edinburgh International Book Festival will center its program around the theme of “Repair,” encouraging audiences to reflect on how we can mend what’s broken in our communities, environment, and within ourselves. With 641 writers from 35 countries, the festival will feature a diverse mix of voices exploring topics from environmental justice to personal healing. In addition to talks and panels, the event will offer hands-on workshops like Japanese kintsugi, bike repair, sewing, and manuscript restoration— emphasizing creativity as a tool for rebuilding. The event highlights the importance of honest, face-to-face conversation as a source of hope and healing in today’s noisy world. Altogether, the festival offers an inspiring reminder that storytelling, connection, and collective action can help us repair more than just objects—they can help us rebuild trust, understanding, and a sense of shared purpose.
