At first glance, the doghouse that once housed Roky the German Shepard looks like any other homemade pet structure. However, this doghouse is actually part of a valuable and exclusive group of objects: ones that have been struck by meteorites. In April 2019, a meteorite fragment crashed through the metal roof of Roky’s abode in Costa Rica, narrowly missing the pup. Both the meteorite and the doghouse were sold in a recent Christie’s auction titled “Deep Impact: Martian, Lunar, and Other Rare Meteorites”. The meteorite sold for $21,000 and the doghouse sold for $44,000. Objects hit by meteorites are extremely rare since most end up in the ocean, hence the high price tag.
