Bus Driver’s Handmade Hats

Patty Reitz has been a bus driver for the Clarence Central School District for the past three decades, and she has formed special bonds with students over the years. She provides a unique gift to each student who rides her bus– a handmade, crocheted hat. Reitz has made over 7,000 hats to distribute to the students as a token of appreciation for their kindness and friendship. The hats often are crocheted with brightly colored yarn and feature pom-poms or tassels. Reitz purchases all the yarn herself, and claims it’s a fun way for her to keep up the hobby and to stay connected to the students she meets. The students are always grateful for her gift, and the hats can be spotted everyday in the halls of Clarence, NY schools.
