Animals Repatriated to Madagascar

In a groundbreaking effort to combat wildlife trafficking, Thailand is repatriating 1,000 critically endangered animals to Madagascar, their native habitat. The group, which is being sent on three Qatar Airlines flights, includes spider tortoises, radiated tortoises, ring-tailed lemurs, and brown lemurs. All the exotic creatures were rescued from illegal trade during a Thai police operation. This initiative underscores Thailand’s dedication to international conservation and biodiversity restoration. By returning these animals, both nations aim to strengthen populations of these endangered species in Madagascar, a biodiversity hotspot severely impacted by illegal wildlife trade.
