When Jamil Jan Kochai immigrated to the United States as a child, he struggled to keep up with his English speaking classmates. His second grade teacher, Mrs. Lung, spent hours after school with Kochai everyday, teaching him how to read and write in English over the course of the school year. As Kochai grew up, he continued reading and writing and ended up starting a successful career as an author. Kochai spent years trying to track down Mrs. Lung to thank her for her dedication in teaching him, but couldn’t find her. Thankfully, one of Kochai’s friends contacted Mrs. Lung and surprised Kochai by bringing the teacher to one of his book readings. Kochai and Lung had an emotional reunion where he was able to thank her in person for helping him reach his career goals.
