Melinda Gates announced that she will donate $1 billion to women’s causes over the next two years. Gates wants to pivot her philanthropic focus to gender equity in the coming years as she steps back from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to focus on her individual endeavors. $200 million will be donated to organizations advocating for reproductive rights, $250 million will go to women’s health organizations, and $20 million will be given to 12 global leaders to distribute to organizations of their choosing. Recipients of Gates’ historic donation include the Center for Reproductive Rights, MomsRising, the National Women’s Law Center, The 18th, and The National Domestic Workers Alliance.
