WWII Vet Takes Flight

Days shy of her 100th birthday, Kate Orchard hopped in a glider to raise money for the organization Help for Heroes. Orchard was part of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during World War II, where she worked as a plotter identifying enemy targets in India. She received two medals for her incredible work spotting aircraft targets and signaling air warnings. Orchard’s son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren proudly watched as Orchard flew through the skies in a glider above Cornwall, England. The 99-year-old is passionate about providing necessary resources to veterans, and her recent sky-high stunt helped raise money for Help for Heroes’ veteran programming. Way to go, Kate!
