A group of veterans— Juan Dominguez, Tim Donley, and Nate Kalwicki— bonded over their love of music and decided to launch a band, befittingly named The Resilient. The three bandmates were injured while serving in Afghanistan, with Dominguez becoming a triple amputee. All of them turned to music as a form of healing and relearned how to play on adaptive instruments tailored to their specific physical needs. The men were brought together through MusicCorps, a music program for wounded veterans, where they had the chance to perform at major venues with Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters. After a few successful performances, the friends decided to form their own band, bringing in Nate’s brother Erik Kalwicki as the bassist to round out their group. The Resilient now plays at events around the country and prioritizes gigs that benefit veterans. They’ve shared a stage with legendary musicians like Sheryl Crow, Billy Corgan, Yo-Yo Ma, and more. This summer, The Resilient is focused on their next step to stardom— recording their debut album that will be released in September.
