Paying off Lunch Debt for Students

When 14-year-old DeJuan Strickland was a student at McCurdy Elementary in Missouri, he frequently skipped lunch because his family didn’t have enough money to pay off his negative lunch balance. The teen wanted to help kids in similar situations, and decided to set up a GoFundMe to raise money for a lunch fund. When students at McCurdy Elementary don’t have enough money to pay for lunch, they can now pull it from the fund to ensure they don’t go hungry. Strickland has raised thousands of dollars for the cause, and is now brainstorming ways to eliminate lunch debt for the entire school district.
