Can you tell me about your mission?
Laundry Love washes the clothes and bedding of low/no income families and people
across the US. We brighten the lives of thousands of people through love, dignity, and
detergent by partnering with diverse groups and laundromats nationwide. We’ve done over 4 million loads of laundry at our 310 locations, serving over 3 million people across the country. Clean clothes are dignifying for low to no income individuals and reducing the hygiene crisis helps entire communities.
How do laundromats help your work?
Laundromat owners are our backbone, and we see the laundromat as an inclusive and welcoming place where strangers become friends, people are known by name, hope is hustled, and the worth of every human being is acknowledged and celebrated. Through the neutral space of a laundromat, every person is treated with hospitality and care. Laundromats are spaces where people collide from different backgrounds and are beautifully diverse places.
How can people get involved?
You can start a Laundry Love location in your own neighborhood by connecting with our team, submitting an application, and learning more about our process. Look for laundromats within walking distance to low income housing, shelters, motels, or public transportation stops that have adequate space, working restrooms, and multiple working machines. Laundry sessions are normally a few hours long, giving people the opportunity to clean multiple loads.
What other ventures do you have?
The Dirt on Love is our podcast, which provides an inside look at the heart of Laundry Love. The heart is people. Each episode introduces you to people, their stories, and what they are learning about themselves as they lead a Laundry Love location in their city, neighborhood, or town. We also have a coffee company, Love Coffee, in partnership with Cascadia Coffee Roasters and each bag supports local Laundry Love locations.
