In rural New Zealand, an attempted robbery was prevented by some unexpected heroes: a herd of llamas. After a man was spotted attempting to steal a quad bike from a farmer’s property, the farmer’s llamas surrounded him in a field, keeping him detained and altering their owner that something was awry. The 6-foot-tall animals didn’t hurt the suspect, but made sure he wasn’t able to escape until police arrived. When officers approached the scene, they were stunned to find the would-be thief trapped within the herd, making it easy to take him into custody and bringing some levity and humor to the situation. The story of the “crime-fighting llamas” has quickly become a local legend, with residents celebrating how even barnyard animals can play a role in keeping their community safe.
