Mychal Threets is on a mission to spread “library joy” by documenting heartwarming interactions and teachable moments that take place at Solano County Library in California. Threets, a supervising librarian, has taken TikTok by storm and recently won the American Library Association’s “I Love My Librarian” award. Threets became a reading fanatic at a young age when anxiety prevented him from participating in social activities. Now, the 33-year-old encourages all people to come to the library to experience the joy of reading— whether they are young, old, unhoused, rich, mentally ill, or anything in between. Fans have called Threets “a modern day Mr. Rogers” and “human sunshine” thanks to his warm disposition, vulnerability, and positive attitude. Check out his videos here!
