In 1966, Jack Milton was preparing to graduate from the University of Maryland when he was deployed to fight in the Vietnam War. Milton went on to be an Air Force pilot for 31 years, where he amassed over 12,000 flying hours and took home a Distinguished Flying Cross. Although Milton had taken enough classes to earn his degree from the University of Maryland, he always felt like he missed out on a pivotal life experience by not receiving his diploma. This year, the university invited Milton to a luncheon to honor his lifetime of military service and surprised him with a graduation ceremony. The now 100-year-old was thrilled to finally participate in a graduation, complete with a cap and gown, diploma, and speeches, with his children and grandchildren by his side.
