Rebecka Peterson of Union High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma was named Teacher of the Year for her incredible work inspiring math students. Peterson encourages her students to see the good in each day through her blog, One Good Thing, where she writes about a positive thing that happened during her day. Peterson’s students keep hand-written journals where they follow the same practice, and students say it has sparked hope, creativity, and joy for them both in and out of the classroom. The beloved teacher was honored by First Lady Jill Biden, where she was praised for highlighting the beautiful experiences that come with teaching. Peterson was named Oklahoma’s Teacher of the Year before going on to win the national title.
