A small taco stand in Mexico City with only four options on the menu was awarded a Michelin star. Chef Arturo Martínez opened Taquería El Califa de León over 20 years ago, and says the magic of his delicious food is in its simplicity. The 10-foot wide taqueria serves just four meat taco items, all served on house made corn tortillas with optional salsas. Taquería El Califa de León is the first taco stand to receive the prestigious award, which was announced in the inaugural Michelin Guide Mexico publication. Martínez says the Michelin star won’t change anything about how Taquería El Califa de León is run, except that he will now don the famous Michelin white chef’s jacket while serving tacos to customers.
