The Linda Norgrove Foundation, a UK-based nonprofit, has arranged for 19 female medical students in Afghanistan to finish their studies in Scotland. These bright young doctors were forced to drop out of medical school when the Taliban banned education for women in Afghanistan three years ago. Now, the students will resume their studies in Edinburgh while having their education and accommodations paid for. The Scottish government worked hand in hand with the Linda Norgrove Foundation to organize student visas for the women and accommodated their regulations to give the aspiring doctors the same permissions as Scottish students. After enduring years of discrimination and hardship, these inspiring students are now safe in Scotland to continue pursuing their dreams.
