Can you tell me about your students?

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to attend college, graduate, and actively participate in transforming their communities to create a better society. In Los Angeles, tens of thousands of high school students lack the resources they need to apply, get into, and succeed in college. Our partnerships with local schools allow us to bring our forward-thinking, high quality, individualized programs to the first generation and lower income students who need us most. Last year 96% of our 3,707 high school students graduated and 89% went on to enroll in college.

What kind of programs do you offer?

Our programs are centered around four key areas: creating pathways to college, helping students overcome educational barriers, establishing support networks, and empowering future leaders. Our college access advisors teach students about college planning, self advocacy, financial literacy, coursework for college acceptance, and more. We offer individualized college counseling to guide students as they navigate required coursework, prepare their applications, and determine their best-fit colleges. Our staff familiarizes students with financial aid terms, how to apply for loans, and responsible borrowing. We also accompany students on trips to colleges across California so they can envision themselves in a university setting.

How do you support students after high school?

Our College Success Program gives college students access to ongoing one-on-one advisement sessions, peer mentoring, career readiness opportunities, lessons focused on life after college, and more. We have a summer bridge program to guide recently graduated students through the transition from high school to the first day of college. We also have a scholarship to assist high-achieving students in covering the increasingly expensive cost of college. Our mentoring program pairs first and second year college students with upperclassmen who can offer advice about campus life.

How can individuals get involved in your work?

ScholarBridge is made up of professionals, entrepreneurs, executives, and companies who assist and guide our scholarship students and alumni as they navigate college and careers. We partner with volunteers throughout the years to support our student programming, fundraising, and awareness building efforts. Opportunities include speaking on a career panel, presenting a skills-building workshop, reading scholarship applications, or assisting with resume building and interview preparation. We also have a Young Professional Network which is a diverse and dynamic group committed to supporting students through fundraising, advocacy, and volunteering.
