Can you tell me about the need for your work?
Right now, in parts of the world, children are vulnerable to malnutrition, unsafe births, malaria, and other diseases. If left untreated, malnutrition can be fatal and kills up to two million children every year, many of which are in war zones and sub-Saharan Africa. Neonatal mortality rates remain high in the area, as well as a rampant Malaria problem— 90% of all Malaria deaths occur in the region. To combat these health issues, we work within local communities to provide vital health services to give every child a bright future. We employ a holistic approach to healthcare that involves engaging with the community and organizing initiatives that proactively promote healthy behaviors.
What services does your clinic offer?
Rural sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the most difficult places to access healthcare, and everyday, countless people die from preventable causes as a result. We’re addressing this issue with our free clinic in rural Kenya, providing access to healthcare for several communities in desperate need. The Vill-Angel clinic is a lifeline for over 10,000 people, offering emergency care, HIV treatment, infection prevention, childbirth support, and more. To save more lives, we are expanding to add a maternity wing, a vital necessity in the area where maternal and newborn death rates are high. By bringing health services closer to home, we can prevent needless deaths and build a healthy future.
What is your GATE program?
GATE is our Girls Advocacy Through Education program, which provides girls at risk of trafficking in Northwest Thailand with school fees and supplies that they need to stay in school. By providing school uniforms, daily lunches, textbooks, study materials, backpacks, travel fares, and more, girls are able to continue their educational journeys. Without access to schools, opportunities for girls are severely limited and they are at a higher risk of facing human trafficking. Sponsorships in this program help to prevent trafficking and break the cycle of poverty by keeping vulnerable girls in school and giving them a chance to achieve their goals.
How can individuals get involved in your work?
We believe every child deserves to grow up with health and opportunities, and there are many ways you can help us achieve that. The best help you can provide is a general donation that goes to where funds are needed most within our programming. We also have sponsorship opportunities, where you can donate directly to a girl in our GATE program or fund medical treatments at our clinic in Kenya. If you’re interested in volunteering, you can help us with fundraising events, writing grant proposals, administrative needs, research, and spreading the word about the important work we do.
