Completing the Amtrak Railroad

When the Amtrak 681 Downeaster train pulled into Brunswick, Maine from Boston this summer, 84-year-old Nat Read completed his goal of riding all 21,400 miles of the Amtrak network. The train enthusiast spent years riding across the country on Amtrak’s various routes, taking in the sights from his preferred window seat. Amtrak’s railroads span 46 states, the District of Columbia, as well as three Canadian provinces. Read says his best travel memories have taken place on these trains, and that he now views railroad tracks as the lace that ties America together. Upon arrival at the Brunswick station, the conductor made an announcement about Read’s amazing feat and passengers lined up to take photographs with an overjoyed Read.
