Comedy for Trauma

Standup comedian Angie Belcher has developed a unique course to help trauma survivors gain confidence and overcome their hardships. Belcher uses her background in psychology to help people take the stage to talk about their trauma, whether it’s a disability, a traumatic experience, or a mental disorder. The most common topics she hears about are depression, PTSD, and anxiety. By using comedy as a form of therapy, Belcher’s participants can find humor in the dark things they’ve experienced and eliminate the stigma around discussing trauma. Her course is now being offered as a treatment option for men at risk of suicide in London.
