Scientists are launching the world’s largest cat database to better understand feline behavior and genetics. The project, called “Darwin’s Cats,” invites cat owners to share information about their pets’ personalities, health, and habits—and even send in fur samples for DNA analysis. The goal is to collect data on 100,000 cats and sequence the DNA of 5,000 of them, which could lead to breakthroughs in understanding cat health, behavior, and even offer insights into human neurological conditions like autism. This research builds on the success of a similar project focused on dogs and has the potential to deepen our connection with the animals we share our homes with. It's an exciting opportunity for pet owners to contribute to science and help unlock the mysteries behind their cat's unique quirks.
