Actor Builds Foster Homes

Christian Bale’s organization Together California is in the process of developing a village of 12 homes, two apartments, and a 7,000 square foot community center to give foster children a safe space to live. The Palmdale, California community aims to keep foster siblings under the same roof, and will provide transitional housing for those aging out of the foster care system. Bale became interested in fixing the foster care crisis after the birth of his own daughter in 2005, when he thought about what happens to children who don’t have family around. Bale’s first-of-its-kind foster village is expected to be completed next year and will house children placed in the California foster care system, which is the largest in the country.
